A prophecy foretold...

Three years after the unprovoked attack on a peaceful colony, the war between the Rojok dynasty and the Tri–Galaxy Fleet rages on. Born of that war is the Morcai Battalion, a fleet comprised of Centaurians and humans; the first collaboration of its kind and a step toward an intergalactic alliance. But the fragile union is tested as their courageous Commander in Chief, Dtimun, is faced with the temptation of the forbidden; and human; Dr. Madeline Ruszel.

A combat surgeon, Ruszel is aware of the danger of inciting a Centaurian's interest, even if he is the most intriguing of men. Besides putting their mission at risk, personal relations between their kinds are still outlawed. But a prophecy that touches on both their lives and the future of all alien nations hints that a greater unity may be theirs for the taking...if they, and their crew, survive in the battle for peace.

The Morcai Battalion The Recruit edition by Diana Palmer Romance eBooks

Thinking the Morcai Battalion books could be read as stand-alone, I didn't read the first of the series, but launched right into this one. I didn't feel lost at all, and enjoyed it immensely -- right up until the end. The Recruit is fast-paced and exciting, and the events are exhilarating, because the real hero of the story is the h.

Dr. Madeline Ruszel is a kick-ass combat surgeon who enjoys bar brawls and has courage; a quick, inventive mind; and buoyant optimism and humor. She doesn't hesitate to save lives, and those often turn out to belong to characters who return the favor at the optimal moment, giving the book an epic feeling. Her relationship with Dtimun, her intimidating, cat-like Holoncom commander, develops slowly, in part because inter-species union is punishable by death. It's a fairly long read, 362 pages, so I was disappointed when the novel ended with a cliff-hanger. As I just had to find out what happened, I purchased the final installment, Invictus.

In contrast with The Recruit, Invictus is a drawn-out ending; By the time something happens, the reader has already anticipated it. The long-awaited consummation of Madeline and Dtimun's relationship is so vague that, although I understood that the inter-species sex was very different, I hadn't a clue what actually occurred.

I'm glad I read The Recruit -- it was great fun, even though the journey was better than the destination.

The Morcai Battalion The Recruit edition by Diana Palmer Romance eBooks Reviews

Just as good as the others in the series, One sees the universe in a futuristic setting.
This was a bit of a clumsy effort for a seasoned author, in my opinion.
I was intrigued by the world but bored by the story and the characters after page 80 or so. I finished it, thinking I could have used the time better...
Not bad.
Not particularly good either.
Meh.
Even better than the first book. I love it. It's a little bit more thought provoking, but it keeps you wondering.
One of the best series I have ever had the pleasure to read... This series will definitely be a keeper!!...the writing is excellent and fast paced...great page turner, I could not put it down ...READ IT. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED
I ordered it as soon as it became available, and devoured it. Written at a fast pace, with humor and pathos, this book will keep your attention from beginning to end, and leave you hungry for the sequel to come! I loved it! I am hard pressed to choose the best between The Morcai Battalion and The Recruit, but they fit together, and I can't wait to find out what happens next. Never a dull moment. The characters really come to life in both books, and it's nice to see how they grow. Description is vibrant and just right compared to the action. I love Ruszel, and can't wait to see how she and Dtimun will get along in the next book...Susan Kyle is not telling me anything....The Morcai Battalion started it all; be sure to read it also, if you like this one. A lot of readers are discovering the original Morcai Battalion when they discover Morcai Battalion The Recruit.

I would discuss cons if I had any to add, but I couldn't find anything to report.
I've been reading Diana Palmer for years and read the "The Morcai Battalion" when it came out in hardcover. Bought the ebook and reread it before reading "The Recruit." I realize that Ms. Palmer is taking her Susan Kyle books and adding or rewriting in some instances, but I have to say there were a couple parts when I had to reread several times to get the jist of the paragraph. I have to believe this is an editing problem as I reread the Susan Kyle version of "Invictus" (the last in the series) and didn't had any problem at all. I hope Ms. Palmer continues the series with her secondary characters.
I LOVE THIS SERIES AND HAVE FOR YEARS. Susan Kyle, her real name I believe, wrote the original series under same but she has enlarged the original book under her pen name of Diana Palmer. This series I have read and reread through the years since I found it - LOVE IT! So, if you like "space" themes - read it starting with "The Morcai Batallion", then "The Morcai Batallion The Recruit" and then "The Morcai Batallion Invictus".
She says she will now write sequels I read on her website so lets hope so - the time may finally be right now as apparently it was not years ago - guessing the publisher. THANK YOU SUSAN KYLE FOR PROVIDING ME WITH MANY HOURS OF PLEASURE ON THE READS AND REREADS........
